Much like a split system but on a bigger scale. 

They consist of an indoor fan coil unit and a outdoor unit (condenser). 

The way the unit delivers air into each area is through the ducting that connects to the indoor blower. 

Think of the indoor unit as the heart of the system and the ducting to be the veins, pumping blood or in this case, air, throughout the whole house.
